This soundset was initially supposed to be released in November of last year. However, a film score I was writing got in the way of that ambition and it had to be put on hold.

So, I’m very pleased to now be releasing Serum Nova as my first soundset of 2023.

Nova comes in two volumes of 150 patches and is all about the high tech/low life vibe of cyberpunk. It’s a collection of modern and futuristic sci-fi sounds, taking advantage of Serum‘s digital wavetable structure, multiple modulation possibilities and world class effects.

Inspiration has come from the cyberpunk and sci-fi worlds of Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell, Star Wars and Tron; the music of artsits such as Hyper, Le Castelvania, Michael McCann and Ben Frost; and even the ideas of visionaries such as Isaac Asimov, Moebius, Hideo Kojima and Andrei Tarkovsky.

Chunky basses, driving basslines, silky keys, esoteric pads, industrial soundscapes, violent sfx and energetic sequences are the core of Serum Nova; all of it riven with distortion, detune and drama. These sounds are ideal to conjure up visions of dystopian structures, high tech landscapes, alternative technologies and societal revolution.

As well as being a cinematic sci-fi powerhouse, Nova is perfect for a number of electronic genres such as dark wave, synthwave, techno, psytrance and breakbeat.

On top of getting potentially 300 patches, the Serum Nova downloads feature two brand new skins that I’ve designed and some bonus wavetables.

Hopefully you’ll get a kick out of Serum Nova and have it at the heart of your future music making adventures… not least because I’ve already got enough new cyberpunk/sci-fi patches to create a Nova III and IV!
