20 Dec Diva Floor released
When Soren (Luftrum) emailed me a few months ago about doing a third collaboration soundset, we quickly agreed that doing a third synthwave one might be a bit too predictable.
We quickly decided upon pushing ourselves by doing something slightly out of our comfort zones: modern synth pop. Soren’s Luftrum work often has a more modern electronic vibe, especially in the realms of ambient; whilst I occasionally venture into the worlds of techno and breakbeat. So, it wasn’t a huge leap.
Also, we’re both music fans and have a love of plenty of modern pop music. Soren suggested a focus on the amazing, often Swedish, production behind contemporary pop artists such as The Weeknd, Dua Lipa and Robyn. I’m a fan of Robyn, so that certainly appealed to me.
I listen to quite a bit of Nordic pop; artists such as Robyn, Tove Lo, Kate Havnevik and Loreen are commonly on rotation on the kitchen iPod. As are, thanks to my girls, plenty of K-Pop girl bands.
I found, listening to K-Pop that, much to my initial surprise, there was some really fascinating production techniques and synth programming going on. And yes… I have grown to like K-Pop. Twice are my favourite, if you must know.
So, my side of Diva Floor is infused with the synth pop sounds of not just the UK, the US, Sweden and Norway but, also South Korea.
I might even be considering a K-Pop soundset of my won in the future for Serum. We shall see…
Hope you dig what Soren and I have put together. It’s been a lot of fun and an interesting challenge at times too.
